Top Congress leaders P Chidambaram, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Harish Rawat, and others claimed that they had been illegally detained and manhandled at the Tughlaq Road police station. They were released after midnight.
Several Congress heavyweights, such as Harish Rawat, Deepender Hooda, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, and others, were released from detention late on Monday night after a brief protest inside the Tughlaq Road police station in New Delhi. The Congress MPs and senior leaders had been detained during the day while protesting against the Enforcement Directorate's (ED) summons to Rahul Gandhi for questioning in the National Herald case.

At the police station, the Congress leaders staged protests throughout the day, resorting to sloganeering and singing ‘Raghupati Raghav’. The sporadic protests continued late into the night.
Around 11:15 pm, the leaders staged another protest, seeking to know the reason for their detention. Terming the detention illegal, Congress Rajya Sabha MP Deepender Hooda said, "The police were unable to tell us why we aren’t being allowed to leave the premises. We will continue our protest against the unethical questioning of Rahul Gandhi. We had to protest at the police station gate as they were not allowing us to leave and neither were they telling us the reason."

Senior Congress leader Harish Rawat alleged that the police illegally detained them on the orders of the Bharatiya Janata Party. "We are respectable people. Why were we illegally detained? It was on the orders of the BJP,” he said.
“They are questioning Rahul Gandhi for eight-nine hours. This is nothing but misuse of agencies. The party will continue the protests. The Congress is a peaceful party, but we fought aggressively against injustice today. We will continue our fight," Rawat said.
