Congress brainstorming session: Navjot Sidhu camp blames Charanjit Channi for poll debacle
India Today
The Congress has organised a two-day brainstorming session to introspect on its Punjab loss.
The Congress high command today launched a two-day brainstorming session, asking party nominees who lost and won in Punjab to list the reasons that led to the party's abysmal defeat in the state elections. This comes just a day ahead of Chief Minister-elect Bhagwant Mann’s oath ceremony in Khatkar Kalan, the ancestral village of Bhagat Singh.
Priority was given to the Malwa belt, where the Congress lost 38 seats. In this election, the party managed a few wins against the Aam Aadmi Party, which swept the state.
Most leaders who lost in the Malwa belt blamed former Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi for the party's performance. Channi came under direct attack from leaders belonging to Navjot Singh Sidhu’s camp.

The Congress nominee from Bassi Pathana, Gurpreet Singh GP, blamed Charanjit Singh Channi for the poll debacle and demanded his removal from the party. Gurpreet Singh finished second after a neck-and-neck contest with Charanjit Channi's brother Mahohar Singh.
Slammed Charanjit Singh Channi, Gurpreet Singh GP said that a person who cannot control his own family, cannot be expected to do more.
“How can the face (Charanjit Channi) who cannot control his own family control the state? We don't want faces like this We want leaders who have a clean image. Cash was seized from his (Channi) nephew. I have demanded action against him and people like him should be removed from the party,” Gurpreet GP said, adding that Channi was tainted after money was seized from his nephew's home and is responsible for the party's poor performance.
