In the 2018 election the Congress swept to a landslide win with 68 seats to its name and the BJP, which won 49 seats in 2013, got just 15.
The Congress will likely defeat the BJP in the 2023 Chhattisgarh Assembly election and retain power in the state - a big win, if it happens, ahead of next year's Lok Sabha election. A health warning - exit polls are often wrong.
According to exit polls released Thursday evening, India TV-CNX and TV5 News believe the Congress will claim majority under its own steam. India TV gives the ruling party between 46 and 56 seats, while TV5 believes it will win a dominant 54-64 seats in the 90-member Assembly. In the 2018 election the Congress swept to a landslide win with 68 seats to its name and the BJP, which won 49 seats in 2013, got just 15.
The India Today-Axis My India and Jan Ki Baat exit polls are more cautious but they too give the Congress an edge. The former believes Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel's party will win between 40 and 50 seats, while the latter believes it will secure between 42 and 53 seats.
