India Today
Ukrainian tanks were seen moving along the streets of Irpin after Russian forces retreated from the city. India Today brings you an exclusive ground report from the now liberated town.
As the Russian troops retreated from around Kyiv and its neighbouring towns, Ukrainian tanks were spotted in Irpin, a town near Kyiv which saw intense shelling and fighting during the Russian occupation of the city.
The Ukrainian army was seen moving along the streets of Irpin taking their own tanks and capturing the Russian ones.
The Ukrainian army were taking both the Ukrainian and the Russian tanks to the centre of Irpin as a mark of their victory over the Russians in this area.
Additional Ukrainian forces were also seen coming in to strengthen the defences of the city as apprehension remained that the Russians could strike back in a bigger way.
The Ukrainian tanks were moving really slowly to ensure that no anti-tank mines remained on the roads. The Russian troops, while retreating, had left several traps on the streets.
Movement of tanks and civilians could be seen in the streets of the city once the lanes were cleared of the anti-tank mines.
A Ukrainian tank commander while speaking to India today about the tank operation said that the tank they were taking was an ex-Russian tank which they had captured in the battle and were using it against the Russian forces. “Now Irpin is completely liberated,” he said.
