This Sunday, Lloyd Henderson completed his 41st Terry Fox Run.
He first participated in a Terry Fox Run in Fort Smith, N.W.T. in 1984 — and hasn't missed one since. For many years, he ran, but now, he walks the course alongside his grandkids.
This year, he was one of dozens of people of all ages who ran in the Yellowknife Terry Fox Run.
Participants gathered at the multiplex before running, walking, or biking a five kilometre loop through the Range Lake area. There were also one and three kilometre versions of the route for those who preferred a shorter run.
Henderson said that in those early years of the Terry Fox Run, he couldn't have imagined the event would still be going strong so many years later.
"It's amazing to see what one person's idea, or their dream or their hope can do. One small person, so to speak, and the runs are still going on," he said.
This year's Yellowknife Terry Fox Run raised more than $13,000 as of Sunday afternoon, according to the Terry Fox Foundation website.
