Tamil Nadu BJP president emphasizes common man's power to change politics, urges accountability, merit, and social justice.
The common man has the power to change Tamil Nadu’s politics, said K. Annamalai, Tamil Nadu president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), in Coimbatore on Sunday.
Speaking at the valedictory of A3, a two-day conclave, organised by Voice of Covai, he said that in the last three months, a successful actor had entered politics and a “failed actor had become the Deputy Chief Minister” of Tamil Nadu. “We should talk of politics that will benefit the public...we should discuss constructive politics.”
The common man should question, should be determined to bring accountability, merit and performance-based politics that is oriented towards social justice in Tamil Nadu. Otherwise, the current political scenario is such that even intellectuals in politics can become like slaves.
He urged the participants to resolve to build a country of knowledge. “You have the power to change Tamil Nadu’s politics,” he said. The public should not only vote, but also question and force political parties to work for their development.
Potential of cities such as Coimbatore are not tapped fully. It will soon get a model railway station and the Tamil Nadu BJP will work to get a metro rail too for the city, he said.
Mr. Annamalai also urged the youth to work for reviving Indian culture and heritage. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought back to the country, since 2015, 640 artefacts that were with other countries. Between 1970 and 2015, just four were brought back.
