Parts of Maharashtra shivered on Friday as cold wave conditions brought on by western disturbances gripped the state. However, they are expected to abate over the next 24 hours, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) said.
Dr Anupam Kashyapi, head of weather forecast department at IMD Pune, said northerly winds are penetrating Maharashtra. But in the coming days, because of the presence of anticyclone in north west and adjacent central India, the wind over Maharashtra will turn into northeasterly, followed east north easterly and then to easterly.
“From January 29 onwards, the night time temperature will gradually rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in the coming three to four days,” Dr Kashyap said.
Currently, Vidarbha is likely to experience cold wave conditions, especially over districts like Yavatmal, Nagpur, Buldhana and Gondia. There is a possibility of cold day at isolated places.
The IMD’s extended rain forecast suggests that in the current week i.e. from January 28 to February 3, both day time and night time temperatures over all the meteorological subdivisions of the state will be far below normal.
