Two students of a private arts and science college in Coimbatore were arrested on Monday for snatching gold chains.
Two students of a private art and science college in Coimbatore were arrested on Monday for snatching gold chains from two women.
According to a report published in The Times of India (TOI), the students were identified as K Prakash, 19, of Veerapandi Pirivu in Tirupur and K Tamil Selvan alias Tamil, 21, of PN Pudur in Coimbatore city.
The incident took place on March 15, when the duo followed a woman named Rajathi, 40, who was riding on a scooter. They snatched four gold chains from her and escaped.
The police initiated an investigation into the matter and collected the CCTV footage. Based on the evidence, the duo was arrested.
Preliminary inquiries revealed that the duo also snatched four sovereigns of gold chain from a 72-year-old woman near GV Residency on February 25.
During the interrogation, the students told the police that they did not have money to pay their semester fees and so they snatched chains in two incidents.
After selling the gold chains for Rs 1 lakh, the duo paid their fees.
