CNN insiders deem Jake Tapper 'total failure' in primetime: He became 'Rachel Maddow lite'
Fox News
Jake Tapper is moving back to daytime following a "total failure" during a short primetime stint that saw "CNN Tonight with Jake Tapper" get trounced by competitors.
Tapper’s program, simply titled "CNN Tonight with Jake Tapper," averaged only 636,000 total viewers from its Oct. 11 debut through Nov. 1, getting trounced by cable news competitors in the process. Fox News’ "Hannity" averaged 2.8 million viewers during the same period while MSNBC’s "Alex Wagner Tonight" managed an average audience of 1.4 million. "CNN Tonight with Jake Tapper" lasted roughly just as long as the network's short-lived streaming service CNN+, which was shut down in April after the network officially went under the control of Warner Bros. Discovery.
