Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal extended the invitation to a man named Harsh Solanki during a town hall with sanitation workers predominantly from the Dalit community in Ahmedabad.
Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday invited a Dalit man and his family from Gujarat to his residence in the national capital for a meal.
During a town hall with sanitation workers predominantly from the Dalit community in Ahmedabad, a man named Harsh Solanki said he was glad to see Kejriwal reaching out to the Dalit community, something he claimed no other leader had done since Independence.
Solanki said he recently saw Kejriwal accept a dinner invitation from an autorickshaw driver. "I would like to make a request. Will you visit my house, a Dalit man's house, like the way you went to the house of an autorickshaw driver during your visit here 15-20 days ago," asked Solanki.
Had dinner at Dilip Tiwari ji's home. Dilip is an auto rickshaw driver in Ludhiana. He invited @ArvindKejriwal ji and us for dinner tonight. The love the common people of Punjab have for Arvind ji is immense. This love will make @AAPPunjab's govt. in 2022. Wait and watch. pic.twitter.com/m8tBLBxft2
In reply, Kejriwal said, "I have seen that every leader visits the house of a Dalit for a meal to show off. Till today, no leader has invited a Dalit to his house for a meal." In the same breath, the Delhi Chief Minister asked if Solanki would come to Delhi to break bread with him, an offer that the latter accepted with humility.
On being asked who all are there in his family, Solanki said he lived with his brother, sister and parents. Kejriwal said he would have the flight tickets arranged for Solanki and his family. "You and your family will have food together on Monday at the house of the Delhi Chief Minister. Whenever I am in Ahmedabad next, I will visit your home," said Kejriwal.
