Airport wins COVID Champion Award for ensuring safe travel
Cochin International Airport Limited (CIAL) has won the COVID Champion Award at Wings India 2022, Asia’s largest event on civil aviation jointly organised by the Ministry of Civil aviation and the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).
CIAL managing director S. Suhas received the COVID Champion trophy from Jyotiraditya Scindia, Minister for Civil aviation, said a press release here.
CIAL was selected for the award for the successful implementation of the Mission Safeguarding project during the pandemic to ensure safe travel at the Kochi airport. CIAL followed the 5R rules — Recognise, Respond, Repeat, Record, and Refer — for the project, which ensured hassle-free passenger movement at the terminals.
The project involved extensive COVID testing facilities, medical surveillance, and follow-up planning programmes for seamless traffic. CIAL handled 4.3 million passengers during 2021 and became the third largest airport in the country in the international sector.
