Apart from playing electrifying hits and constantly engaging the crowd with humour, Chris Martin of Coldplay won hearts in the Mumbai concert with an apology for the British rule
During Coldplay’s smash hit concert in Mumbai on Saturday (January 18, 2025), the band’s frontman Chris Martin won the heart of his fans when he spoke about the pre-independent history and asked an apology for the period when British ruled India.
At the DY Patil Stadium, the lead singer thanked fans for turning up in large numbers for the concert. “This is our fourth visit to India, and the second time to play. We couldn’t have played to a better audience,” said Martin to the packed house.
“Thank you for coming. Thank you for welcoming us even though we are from Great Britain. Thank you forgiving all the bad things Great Britain has done and welcoming us to your home,” he said, as fans cheered him. In between the electrifying concert, Martin captivated the audience with his humour and curiosity.
As part of their Music of the Spheres World Tour, Martin belted out chartbuster tracks like Paradise, Viva La Vida, Adventure of a Lifetime, Yellow, Fix You, and A Sky Full of Stars, among others.
In an interesting moment, Martin noticed a fan holding a placard that read ‘Jai Shri Ram’. Curious, he uttered the phrase, igniting thunderous cheers from the crowd.
He then said, “What does Jai Shri Ram mean? Must be something good.” Martin’s inquiry about the meaning of the phrase only heightened the audience's excitement.
Throughout the evening, Martin made a concerted effort to connect with the audience by speaking different languages. His attempts to speak Hindi and Marathi were met with overwhelming warmth.
