Defence officials from China and the U.S. have held two days of talks in a small sign of progress amid a continuing sharp downturn in relations.
The secure video conference held on Tuesday and Wednesday was led by Major General Huang Xueping, deputy director of the People’s Liberation Army’s Office for International Military Cooperation, and U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defence for China, Michael Chase.
Chinese Defence Ministry spokesperson Wu Qian on Thursday said the sides “exchanged in-depth views on relations between the two countries and the two militaries and issues of common concern.”

Former CM B.S. Yediyurappa had challenged the first information report registered on March 14, 2024, on the alleged incident that occurred on February 2, 2024, the chargesheet filed by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and the February 28, 2025, order of taking cognisance of offences afresh by the trial court.
