China on Tuesday announced that it would launch a series of “targeted military operations” in response to US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan, Chinese state media reported.
The Chinese Defence ministry said that they would “resolutely defend [their] national sovereignty and territorial integrity," as tensions flared between the US and China.

The Chinese People's Liberation Army will conduct important military exercises and training activities, including live-fire drills from August 4 till August 7, the Chinese state media reported.
China said that its Eastern Theater Command will hold joint military operations around Taiwan, with joint maritime and air drills in north, south-west and south-east of the island. China also said that it would hold long-range artillery shooting in the Taiwan Strait and conventional missile test firing in sea regions east of the island starting Tuesday night, a Chinese official said.

China's Foreign Affairs ministry on Tuesday in a strongly-worded statement said that Pelosi’s Taiwan visit was “a serious violation of the one-China principle” and that it would have a “severe impact on the political foundation of China-US relations”.
