China sanctioned a number of U.S. and Canadian officials in response to heightening tension as Western nations call out the country’s alleged human rights violations of the Uighur population in the country’s Xinjiang province.
China also sanctioned Canadian official Michael Chong, vice chair of the Parliament's Standing Committee on Foreign Affairs and International Development (FAAE), along with the eight members of the FAAE Subcommittee on International Human Rights. "The Chinese government is firmly determined to safeguard its national sovereignty, security and development interests, and urges the relevant parties to clearly understand the situation and redress their mistakes," China’s foreign ministry said of the sanctions, according to Reuters.More Related News
