
Child rights body notice to Bengal officials in Malda bomb blast case

The child rights panel took cognisance of BJP MLA Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury’s complaint that five children were injured in a bomb blast in Malda on April 24.
National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) Chairperson Priyank Kanoongo has issued a summons to the Additional director general of West Bengal Police and the Chief Secretary asking them to submit the action-taken report in the case of four children being injured in a crude bomb blast in Malda last month.
The two top officials have also been asked to be physically present before the NCPCR by May 20.
The child rights panel has taken cognisance of BJP MLA Sreerupa Mitra Chaudhury’s complaint that five children were injured in a bomb blast in Malda on April 24. The incident happened at around 4.30 pm in the Kaliachak area.
The crude bombs were kept near a bush in a mango field. As soon as the children began playing with them, assuming them to be balls, they exploded.

Three sustained grievous injuries and were admitted to Malda Medical College and Hospital, while two were admitted to Kaliachak health centre.
The panel had earlier written to the Bengal chief secretary and the state Director-General of Police, asking them to order a probe into the case and asked the state to conduct search operations in the area and take remedial actions to avert such incidents in the future.
