A 32-year-old man from Chennai swallowed jewels worth Rs 1.45 lakh along with biryani at a friend’s Eid party on Tuesday, May 3. Doctors had to give him enema to retrieve the jewels lodged in his stomach.
Among other people, the host, who works in a jewellery store, had invited her friend Mary (name changed) and her boyfriend Abdullah (name changed), for a feast on the occasion of Eid on May 3.
Along with gobbling up the biryani on offer, Abdullah also swallowed jewellery worth Rs 1.45 lakh. Police said he was allegedly drunk while committing the crime.
After the feast ended and the guests had left, the host noticed a diamond necklace, a gold chain and a diamond pendant were missing from the cupboard. After checking with the guests, she suspected that Abudllah had stolen the jewels and lodged a complaint with the Virugambakkam police station.
When Abudllah was questioned on Wednesday, May 4, he confessed to the crime. Police, after scanning his stomach, confirmed that the jewels were still there.
Doctors gave him enema, and on Thursday, a necklace worth Rs 95,000 and gold worth Rs 25,000 were recovered from him.
However, the pendent was still lodged inside his stomach, and doctors gave him laxatives to retrieve it, reported The New Indian Express.
