Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly has opened up on his call with club legend John Terry, regarding taking up the former England international's iconic No.26 jersey.
Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly opened up on his phone call with club legend John Terry saying that the former England star didn't believe him at first and put down the phone at the beginning.
Koulibaly, who joined the Blues during the summer transfer window this year, had rang up Terry to know if he could take up his iconic No.26 jersey number.
The Senegalese defender has now opened up on the conversation and said that it was a nervous call. Speaking to reporters, as quoted by Reuters, he said that call with terry happened the day before he signed his contract with the club.
The 31-year-old went on to say that when he called the Chelsea legend he didn't believe it was him and put down the call.
"It was a nervous call. I was waiting to sign my contract and it happened the day before. I wanted to know which number was free, but the manager (Thomas Tuchel) didn't tell me 26 was."
"John left it in 2017 and nobody took it. I wondered if it was retired or nobody wanted it... I called John but he didn't believe me at first, he put down the phone," said Koulibaly.
Koulibaly said he spoke to Terry later on and said that he was happy to get the go ahead from the club legend.
