Chardham Yatra 2022: Badrinath highway closed due to heavy rains, landslide
India Today
Chardham Yatra to Kedarnath has slowed down after the closure of Badrinath Highway due to incessant rains, triggering landslide.
Badrinath Highway has been closed for vehicular movement for the past two days due to incessant rainfall after the onset of the monsoon in parts of the country, including Uttarakhand. The traffic has been disrupted due to landslides in Sirobagad, 15 km from Rudraprayag district headquarter, causing severe inconvenience to the pilgrims.
The PWD department also deployed JCB machines to clear the debris from the Sirobagad road.
Incessant rainfall continued in Rudraprayag, affecting Kedarnath Dham Yatra. Due to rain and landslides, the number of pilgrims visiting Kedarnath Dham has come down drastically from 10,000 to 3 to 4,000.
On Thursday, at 10 AM, the journey to Kedarnath Dham was stopped due to rain while the passengers were moved to safe places. At present, traffic is being diverted so that the pilgrims could reach their destination.
The Yatra is said to be resumed as and when the weather clears.
