Chandigarh administration directs Municipal Corporation to review allocation of vending zones
India Today
The Chandigarh administration has directed the Municipal Corporation to review the allocation of vending sites to increase the income of the vendors.
The Chandigarh administration instructed the Municipal Corporation (MC) to review the allocation of vending zones in the city days after it faced flak over 'wrong allocation' of the sites. According to a report published in the Tribune, UT adviser Dharam Pal said that the MC Commissioner had been directed to review the allocation of vending zones to increase the income of the vendors.
Barring 'no vending zones' like Sector 17, all the other vending zones in Chandigarh would be reviewed and explored for resettlement of the vendors, the report said. Currently, there are 46 designated street vending zones in the city. The MC was given permission by the UT Urban Planning Department to set up fifteen new vending zones recently so that at least 1,500 street vendors could be settled.
