Chamarajanagar district electrification project for tribal settlements receives government support, aiming for completion in three months.
The Chamundeshwari Electricity Supply Corporation (CESC) Chairman and MLA for Srirangapatna Ramesh Bandisidde Gowda on Wednesday reiterated the State government’s commitment to electrifying tribal “haadis” (settlements) in Chamarajanagar district.
Speaking at a review meeting with district officials, including Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Nag, here, Mr. Gowda said that issues related to the electrification project would be promptly resolved.
“If there are any hurdles, I will take up the matter at the government level to ensure timely intervention and necessary clearances,” he said, directing the CESC officials and engineers to resume work without delay.
Deputy Commissioner Shilpa Nag highlighted the significant progress made in the initiative to electrify 31 tribal villages, which will benefit over 2,000 families. The State government has allocated ₹40 crore for the project, which she described as an exceptional investment for rural infrastructure development.
“It is uncommon to see such substantial funds dedicated to tribal development, but the project received the approvals from both the Chief Minister and the Minister in charge of Chamarajanagar,” she said.
However, she noted that a major challenge remains in obtaining clearances for work on forest land, as nearly 52% of the district is classified as forest area.
Despite these constraints, the district administration achieved a major milestone by securing clearance for electrification in the Palar tribal haadi located in the Male Mahadeshwara Hills region. Efforts are ongoing to obtain approvals for other settlements, with a target to complete the project within the next three months, she added.

Four persons were killed and three others sustained injuries in a fire that broke out in a five-storey building housing several manufacturing units in Rohini Sector 5, the police said on Wednesday. Sixteen fire tenders were rushed to the spot after the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) received a call about the blaze at 7.30 p.m. on Tuesday. However, due to the combustible material stored in the building, including plastic and clothes, and the narrow lanes leading up to it, which prevented fire engines that ran out of water from giving way to other rescue vehicles, it took the DFS over 12 hours to douse the flames.

It is not often that an election in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation makes much news outside Kerala or even the capital. But the elections in 2020 were different as it culminated in the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)]’s Arya Rajendran becoming the youngest Mayor of the Corporation at the age of 21, an event which got attention far and wide. Now, five years later, an old tweet on that election by another young person in the running to be the Mayor of New York has gone viral.
