Lt. Governor emphasizes promoting nationalism and patriotism through celebrating festivals, fostering brotherhood and respecting all religions.
Lieutenant Governor K. Kailashnathan said that celebration of all festivals should be an occasion to promote the spirit of nationalism and patriotism.
Addressing a gathering as part of Christmas celebration at Sacred Heart of Basilica here on Sunday night, the Lt. Governor said that irrespective of religion, caste and creed, people of the country celebrate all festivals to foster brotherhood. “In my opinion, all festivals should try to inculcate a spirit of nationalism and patriotism,” he said.
Mr. Kailashnathan said all religions stand for betterment and well being of humanity. The inherent message that all religions convey was about harmony and brotherhood. People should respect all religious faith and uphold the values of humanity, the Lt. Governor said.
Pointing out the all encompassing nature of country’s culture, the Lt. Governor said celebrations of various festivals in India demonstrate our diversity and the democratic spirit prevailing in the country.
“No matter which religion you belong to, it is ultimately the betterment of society that matter. All religions are equal, and our country embrace all religious beliefs. World over festivals are celebrated but the difference in our country is that we all celebrate festivals together,” he said.
Before addressing the gathering, he participated in the Christmas celebrations at the Church. The Lt. Governor placed Baby Jesus in the Crib, lighted the Christmas tree , distributed gifts and participated in the cake cutting.
