
CBI summons TMC MLA in connection with post-poll violence in West Bengal

The TMC MLA has been asked to appear at Nizam Palace, CBI office in Kolkata by this week.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) summoned Trinamool Congress (TMC) MLA Paresh Pal to question him about his involvement in the post-poll violence that singed West Bengal after the election results were announced in May last year.
Abhijit Sarkar, a BJP worker from North Kolkata, was killed on the day the West Bengal assembly election results were announced. Sarkar's family members alleged that he was killed by TMC goons.

Initially, the Kolkata Police arrested seven people in the case. Later, the CBI took over the investigation on the direction of the Calcutta High Court.
Biswajit Sarkar, the brother of the deceased BJP worker, submitted a written complaint against Pal to the CBI.

Violence gripped West Bengal as several party workers died and many injured in clashes, barely a day after the result of the hotly contested state assembly poll was declared. The party workers were allegedly killed in a clash that broke out between the TMC and the BJP in various parts of West Bengal.
