CBI further stated that the accused's earlier bail plea was also dismissed and the court had observed while declining bail on account of the investigation into the present offence being intricate.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has opposed the regular bail petition of businessman Ajay Ramesh Nawandar, arrested in connection with an alleged bank fraud of Rs 34,615 crore by Dewan Housing Finance Corporation Limited (DHFL).
The CBI while opposing the bail petition through a reply stated, "The investigation revealed that the accused or applicant was found to be doing liasoning work with different entities or departments. He is a very influential person in Mumbai having connections with various persons. The investigation has also revealed that he was having conspicuous knowledge about costly valuables acquired by the accused Wadhawan brother from defrauded funds, a few of which could be recovered during the investigation."
CBI further stated that the accused's earlier bail plea was also dismissed and the court had observed while declining bail on account of the investigation into the present offence being intricate, the accused prima facie being complicit at some stage of the handling/diversion of the humongous funds originating from the loans, a strong likelihood of him tampering with evidence and influencing witnesses if admitted to bail.
"Analysis of data retrieved from the mobile set recovered during a search at his residential premises in Mumbai on 08/09.07.2022 has revealed receiving of Rs. 1.30 crores from Baba Dewan i.e. Dheeraj Wadhawan. It has also revealed that he was trying to sell said paintings," said the CBI.
