The CBI initiated inquiries into alleged corruption and irregularities in the different departments of Lakshadweep administration.
A 25-member Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team headed by a DIG-rank officer camped in Lakshadweep is carrying out joint surprise checks along with the vigilance officials of Lakshadweep administration in alleged corruption and irregularities in the different departments of Lakshadweep administration.
The departments include Lakshadweep Co-operative Marketing Federation (LCMF), Fisheries Department, Public Works Department, Khadi Board and Co-operative Society and Animal Husbandry Department.
NCP leader Mohd Faizal who is an MP from Lakshadweep and his nephew Abdul Razzaq are under the scanner of the CBI. Razzak is representative of SRT General Merchants Importers and Exporters, Colombo, Srilanka.
To facilitate the export, fish were procured from local fishermen through LCMF and were sold to the Colombo-based company. However, no payments were made by the company to LCMF, resulting in a huge revenue loss.
