CBI arrests Punjab IAS officer in bribery case, recovers Rs 30 lakh in cash

The CBI has placed IAS officer Paramjit Singh under arrest for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from the complainant.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested IAS officer Paramjit Singh, who is posted as director of Punjab roadways in Chandigarh, in a bribery case, officials said.
The federal probe agency placed Paramjit Singh under arrest on Monday for allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 2 lakh from the complainant.
A case has also been registered against Paramjit Singh on a complaint in which it has been alleged that the complainant was due for promotion to the rank of general manager, for which DPC was constituted in January, 2022 and the director was member of the DPC.
“It was further alleged that the accused demanded bribe of Rs 5 lakh from the complainant for recommending his name to Principal Secretary, (Transport, Punjab Government) for promotion to the rank of General Manager. It was also alleged that the bribe was negotiated and the accused agreed to accept Rs two lakh from the complainant,” said the CBI in a statement.
Paramjit Singh allegedly threatened the complainant to bear the consequences in case the bribe amount was not paid to him.
The CBI laid a trap and caught Paramjit Singh while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 2 lakh from the complainant.
Searches were also conducted on Monday at the premises of the accused in Chandigarh and Mohali which led to the recovery of cash of Rs 30 lakh.
