The CBI arrested 2 Central GST officials in a Rs 50,000 bribery case in Jaisingpur in Maharashtra.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested two Central GST officials in a bribery case of Rs 50,000 on Friday.
Superintendent Mahesh Nesarikar and Inspector Amit Kumar Mishra belonged to the Central GST in Jaisingpur in Kolhapur district in Maharashtra.
A case was registered on Thursday against Nesarikar and Mishra, on the basis of a complaint. It was alleged that Nesarikar posted as Superintendent of Central GST at Jaisingpur demanded undue advantage of Rs. 75,000 from a complainant through his tax consultant to settle the matter regarding his service tax liability for the year 2017-18 to 2020-21.
It was further alleged that both the accused negotiated the bribe amount with the complainant and his tax consultant and fixed the same as Rs. 50,000.
CBI laid the trap and the Inspector, Central GST was caught while accepting the bribe of Rs.50,000 from the complainant. Later, the Superintendent was also caught by the agency. Searches were conducted at the premises of both the accused at Jaisingpur and Kolhapur which led to recovery of incriminating documents.
Both the accused are being produced before the Court of Special Judge, Jaisingpur on Friday.
