CBC's Make the Season Kind kicks off to support the Calgary Food Bank
CBC
CBC Calgary's annual Make the Season Kind: In Support of the Calgary Food Bank campaign gets underway today with the hugely popular coffee and mug sales.
The Calgary Eyeopener will be broadcasting live from Fratello Coffee Roasters at 4021 Ninth St. S.E., where we'll be selling this year's limited edition Grounds for Giving mug and coffee beans. New this year, the coffee kickoff will also be live streamed on our CBC News Alberta YouTube page.
This is the 39th year CBC Calgary has been supporting the Calgary Food Bank.
The goal is to raise $1.5 million for those in need. The campaign runs from Dec. 6 to 19, and we will be taking donations until Dec. 31.
"This year has been tough for many of our friends and neighbours, and a little kindness can make all the difference," said Tracy Johnson, senior director of journalism and programming for CBC Calgary. "Now, more than ever, supporting the Calgary Food Bank helps ensure everyone in our community has access to nutritious, safe food."
On Wednesday, Dec. 11, The Homestretch will be doing a live broadcast from the Ironwood in Inglewood at 1229 Ninth Ave S.E.
Enjoy musical performances by house band Kinjo & Young, and special performances by Ashley Ghostkeeper, Kaiya Gamble and Tissa Rahim.
Entrance to the show can be made either through a monetary or non-perishable food item donation.
The campaign continues on Dec. 12 and Dec. 17 with two more coffee sales, on Dec. 12 in Mahogany at Analog Coffee in Westman Village, 102 Mahogany Centre S.E., and on Dec. 17 in Varsity at Alenn Sandwich and Coffee Shop, 120-5403 Crowchild Trail N.W. Both events are at 6 a.m. until sellout.
We'll also have bakery sales, online auctions, $5 raffle day and more throughout the month. Details are here.
This year we are recognizing those who have made a difference in Calgary. Whether it's a friend, teacher, community leader or even a neighbour, we want to hear about the people who spread kindness and joy. And we're changing the giveaway this year. If the nominee is selected, two Make the Season Kind tuques will be sent to share the warmth — one for the nominee and one for the person who nominated them. There's more info here.
And the campaign wraps up on Dec. 19 with Blitz Day at CBC Calgary.
Join us for a day of special programming and live music in our lobby at 1000 Veterans Place N.W. We will have coffee, popcorn, a 360-degree booth and lots more.
The Calgary Eyeopener will be set up in the lobby and joined by local musicians and bands all through the day.
