The CBI raided the residence of Bidyut Baran Gayen, a close aide of arrested Birbhum TMC president Anubrata Mondal, in the cattle smuggling case.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) raided the residence of Bidyut Baran Gayen, a close associate of arrested Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Anubrata Mondal, in connection with the cattle smuggling case.
On Sunday, a team of CBI officers reached Gayen’s residence in Bolpur city of Birbhum district in West Bengal to conduct a raid. He is the joint director of the companies owned by Anubrata's daughter, Sukanya Mondal.
The raid was conducted after the CBI learned Anubrata Mondal had invested in many companies through her daughter Sukanya.
“Bidyut Kumar Gayen, a former employee of Bolpur municipality, is under the central agency's scanner now. In a very short span of time, he became the owner of a huge property. His role in the multi-crore cattle smuggling case is under scanner now,” said the CBI sources.
West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee's close aide and Trinamool Congress leader Anubrata Mondal was arrested by the CBI in a cattle smuggling case on August 11. His name came up in the cattle smuggling case after the CBI registered an FIR in 2020. According to the CBI, between 2015 and 2017, over 20,000 cattle heads had been seized by the Border Security Force (BSF) as they were being smuggled across the border.
