A woman in Tamil Nadu has accused the son of a local panchayat head of sexually abusing her daughter and his entire family of harassing them. Now, the panchayat president has claimed the case is false and politically motivated.
After a woman in Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar accused the son of Irukkangudi panchayat president Senthamarai of sexually abusing her daughter and the entire family of harassing them thereafter, he has called the allegations false and politically motivated.
He said, “The whole thing is a false allegation. I respect women like my own mother and this is all a politically motivated complaint. If this continues, I will commit suicide.”
Devanay, a woman from Tamil Nadu’s Virudhunagar, filed a complaint accusing the local panchayat head Senthamarai's son, Sualaiman, of molesting and abusing her teenage daughter.
The woman alleged that police were not taking action against him as he supported the ruling DMK party.
In the complaint, the mother said, “When we went to meet Sulaiman, he was with relatives and he verbally abused me and my husband and even physically attacked us and stripped us.”
The complainant alleged that the family was threatened by the panchayat head, who belongs to the ruling DMK. She reportedly attempted self-immolation in order to get the administration to take action.
Now, an FIR has been lodged in which Senthamarai and three of sons, among others, have been named. Of the eight, two are in custody while five, including Senthamarai, have been granted anticipatory bail.
