The crash, which involved a Winnipeg police cruiser, took place just after 4 a.m. at Main Street and Belmont Avenue. Images from the scene show two severely damaged vehicles.
Police said that people were injured in the crash, including two officers who were taken to the hospital for treatment. One person was taken into custody.
Main Street is closed in both directions between Kilbride Avenue and Hartford Avenue as police investigate the incident.
Officers said they expect the road closure will last several hours and will affect the morning rush hour. Drivers should find alternate routes.
There are no details at this time as to what caused the crash.
