The recovered goods are worth about Rs 1 crore, the police said, adding that they are now in the process of sending the three to jail.
Three businessmen manufacturing caps and barcodes for illicit liquor bottles have been arrested by the Kanpur police in a joint operation with the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) and the Excise Department. Two factories in Delhi, owned by the three - Ashok, Rajesh and Mukesh Kumar Mittal, have also been sealed.
The recovered goods are worth about Rs 1 crore, the police said, adding that they are now in the process of sending the three to jail.
The police had recovered large quantities of caps and barcodes of foreign liquor bottles from one Rajiv Kumar, who was arrested a few days ago from Uttar Pradesh’s Fatehpur. This prompted the police to increase the scope of their investigation in this case.
“This is a big racket which has been manufacturing fake barcodes, wrappers and lids of bottles for a long time,” an inspector general of the police told India Today TV.
