Communities across the region will be celebrating Canada Day in a variety of ways this weekend.
The Multicultural and Folks Arts Association is holding its annual celebration at the Sudbury Arena.
The event will feature food, cultural performances as well as arts and culture.
"We've got Nigerian food and we've got Greek food," said Bela Ravi, president of the Sudbury Multicultural Arts Association.
Entertainment will feature the choir from the Italian Club and dancing by the Bhangra Club of Sudbury.
"You know what, it brings everybody together, no matter what part of the world you're from," she said.
"That's what I like about it. It's a melting pot and it reinforces to me as an immigrant that we all matter, we all count and we all belong."
On Manitoulin Island, organizers will have a variety of events taking place, including face painting, food and a Tom Petty cover band.
"Canada Day is a big event for Central Manitoulin," said Allison Sloss, the events co-orindator for the Municipality of Central Manitoulin.
"We've traditionally hosted it in Providence Bay on July 1st every day. We are looking forward to another great year of events."
In Sault Ste. Marie, entertainment and attractions will take place at the Roberta Bondar Tent Pavilion. A poutine festival will also take place in the downtown core.
Mark Rogers is the president of the Timmins Community Park Association. He said events in Timmins will feature a drone show instead of the usual fireworks.
"We're trying something new," he said. "We're worried about fire bans as we've worked with in the past, environmentally friendly with the drone show, easier on the animals. So we decided to go down a different path this year."
A drone show will also take place at Science North in Sudbury.
