Can't live here: Neighbour of Kashmiri Pandit shot dead by terrorists
India Today
A neighbour of Kashmiri Pandit, who was shot dead by terrorists in Shopian, said that his family cannot live here and wants to leave within 24 hours.
Nestled in the apple orchards of Shopian in south Kashmir are two homes of Pandit families living here for generations, but after two recent attacks targeting them, they live in fear and want to move out.
These are the only Pandit families in Chowtigam village in the Shopian district of Kashmir, considered a hotbed of terror activities.
Even the Kashmiri Pandit exodus of the late 1980s didn't deter these families to leave, but back-to-back attacks on both families have left them wondering.
"We want to leave within 24 hours. Will go to Jammu, live in a tent or a road and even beg if the need be, but can't live here,” says Anil Kumar, neighbour of Sunil Kumar killed in the recent attack targeting Kashmiri Pandits.
“Why didn't we leave this place earlier? That was our biggest mistake, we should have left 30 years ago when everybody was going," he adds.
Anil’s brother, Balkrishna, was also targeted in April this year but fortunately survived even after being hit by six bullets.
Anil says, after his brother and Sunil Kumar, it could be his turn now.
