Can't believe you retired before me: Chris Gayle reacts to Kieron Pollard retirement
India Today
Kieron Pollard on Wednesday, 20 April called time on his international career. Tributes poured in from all around with many believing that he has much more to give to world cricket
Talismanic West Indian opener Chris Gayle reacted late on Wednesday night to Kieron Pollard's retirement, joking that he couldn't believe that Trinidadian decided to retire before him.
Gayle, now almost 43 years old, still continues to play for West Indies in limited overs formats, having recently taken part in the T20 World Cup, hosted in the United Arab Emirates. For that matter, the 'Universe Boss' has not formally retired from Test cricket either, but has not played a single game since 2014.
Gayle reacted to the news on Twitter, after Kieron Pollard, in a lengthy statement, decided to call it quits from his international team. The announcement means that West Indies have to scamper to find a captain for the T20 and the ODI World Cup scheduled to begin to be hosted in Australia and India respectively.
Gayle, in a short tweet, congratulated Pollard and wished him luck for his future endeavours.
"Can't believe you retired before me," Gayle wrote on Twitter. The left-hander made his debut in the year 1999 and is currently in the 23rd year of his international career. He was already an established member in the squad when Kieron Pollard debuted in 2007.
