A man was fatally shot by Calgary police early Tuesday morning after he allegedly assaulted an officer at a building in the Franklin Industrial Park.
Calgary Police Service said officers were called at about 4:20 a.m. to a commercial building in the 3000 block of Second Avenue S.E. for reports of a break and enter.
Inside the building, officers located a man and an altercation occurred during which the man assaulted an officer with a weapon, police said in a release.
"Due to the rapidly changing dynamics of this confrontation, one officer discharged their service weapon," police said.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene.
One officer suffered minor injuries in the scuffle and was treated at the scene by EMS.
No other details were released.
The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) will be investigating.
