By-election for two civic body wards underway in West Bengal

The by-election for the councillors of Asansol ward 6 and Bongaon municipality's ward 14 started at 7 am on Sunday, August 21.
The by-election in ward 6 of Asansol Municipal Corporation (AMC) and ward 14 of Bongaon municipality is underway in West Bengal. Polling started at 7 am on Sunday morning.

In Bongaon municipality, the bypoll is conducted to elect the councillors of the ward. TMC’s Dilip Das died a few days after he was elected as the councillor of ward 14. This time, the TMC nominated Papai Raha as their candidate. BJP’s candidate is Arup Kumar Pal, CPIM nominated trade union leader Dritiman and Pravas Pal is the Congress candidate.
In Asansol too, a new councillor will be announced after today’s election. The elected TMC councillor Sanjay Chakrabarti resigned from his post. In the bypoll, the party nominated Bidhan Upadhyay as their candidate from the ward. Subhasis Mondal is the candidate from CPIM , BJP nominated Sridip Chakrabarti and Somnath Chatterjee is fighting on a Congress ticket.
Heavy security has been deployed in all the polling booths. No unwanted incidents have been reported so far.
