The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) in a release said that the union government once again betrayed the farmers as the budget exposed the empty promises regarding Minimum Support Price (MSP) and doubling farmers' income.
"This budget is the government's revenge on the struggling farmers and a call for the farmers to intensify the movement for the MSP Guarantee Act," the union said.
According to SKM, procurement of wheat and paddy at MSP has reduced from last year and the number of benefiting farmers has also fallen by 17 per cent. The quantity procured fell by seven per cent, the union said.
"There is no word on ensuring MSP for other crops and on MSP Guarantee," they said.

According to them, the share of agriculture and allied activities in total budget fell from 4.3 per cent to 3.8 per cent.
"After the unprecedented agitation of farmers over the past one and a half years, farmers of the country expected that a sensitive government would have come up with specific effective measures in this Budget to address their situation of not getting remunerative prices, facing crop losses due to natural calamities, and sinking deeper into debt," they alleged.
