BSF Eastern Command holds 643 meetings with BGB, apprehends infiltrators, seizes contraband, and safeguards Indo-Bangladesh border.
The Border Security Force (BSF) has held 643 meetings with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) since unrest erupted in the neighbouring country in the first week of August this year.
“Since August 5, 2024, after the unrest in Bangladesh, BSF carried out 27213 SCPs (simultaneous-coordinating patrolling to keep vigil) and held 643 border meetings with BGB,” a press statement by the BSF said.
The statement was issued by the BSF’s Eastern Command, which guards 4,096.67 km of the international border with Bangladesh, on the 60th Raising Day of the border guarding forces.
According to the press statement, the BSF apprehended 2,294 Bangladeshi nationals on the Indo-Bangladesh border while they were attempting to infiltrate into Indian territory.
During the past one year, the BSF’s Eastern Command has apprehended narcotics worth ₹119.52 crore, seized contraband goods worth ₹27.77 crore, and intercepted 174.65 kg of gold worth ₹117.31 crore along the international border.
The Eastern Command of the BSF comprises six frontiers (South Bengal Frontier, North Bengal Frontier, Meghalaya Frontier, Tripura Frontier, Mizoram and Cachar Frontier, and the Assam Frontier) over five States (West Bengal, Assam, Tripura, Mizoram, and Meghalaya). West Bengal shares the longest 2,216-km border with Bangladesh.
The BSF has also deployed 104 companies on law and order duty in Manipur. “Nine Seema Prahris (border guards) sustained injuries, and two Seema Prahris attained martyrdom in the line of duty in Manipur. The BSF has recovered 83 weapons and 768 rds (rounds) of ammunition of various calibres from the miscreants during operations in Manipur,” the press statement by the BSF’s Eastern Command said.
