The order of preventive detention against him was passed on September 21, 2021, by the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PITNDPS) unit at the department of revenue at the Union ministry of finance.
The order was issued by Ravi Pratap Singh, the joint secretary to the Union ministry of finance’s department of revenue, under Section 3(1) of the PITNDPS Act to prevent him from engaging in the illicit trafficking of drugs and psychotropic substances.
Demetriades is accused in two cases by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) which arrested him in the first case on October 18, 2020.
A day before he managed to get bail in that case, on November 6, 2020, the agency took his custody in the second case and arrested him on November 5. On December 15, 2020, Demetriades managed to get bail in the second case.

Demetriades challenged the order before the Bombay High Court in Goa, which had dismissed it. He then approached the Supreme Court but later withdrew it.
