Broken equipment causing unplanned power outage in Faro, Yukon

A broken piece of equipment at the Faro, Yukon diesel plant has caused an unplanned power outage in the community.
Residents can expect to be without power until at least noon on Saturday, a Yukon government spokesperson said in an email to CBC News.
In the meantime the town is opening up a warming centre in the recreation centre, which is running on a backup generator, Yukon Energy wrote on Facebook.
Crews have been dispatched to fix the issue, Yukon Energy wrote Friday, and an update from Yukon Energy is expected between 10:30 and 11 a.m.
Yukon Energy first posted it was aware of the outage affecting Faro around 5:30 p.m. Friday.
Faro is currently "islanded" from the rest of the grid "due to equipment failure on the system," Yukon Energy wrote, so it's been getting its power from a permanent diesel generator at the plant. The community-wide outage was caused when a piece of equipment at the plant broke, Yukon Energy said.
