British Charity flags children’s author Enid Blyton’s work as ‘racist and xenophobic’
India Today
A UK-based charity, English Heritage, has sparked a social media debate by linking the work of the world's most beloved children's author, Enid Blyton, to "racism and xenophobia".
In the latest episode of Britain's divisive culture wars, the work of Enid Blyton, one of Britain's most cherished children's authors whose books are among the most translated in the world, has been condemned as racist and xenophobic by a cultural foundation. The charity English Heritage, which manages over 400 prehistoric places, monuments, and sites, updated its website to state that her work has been chastised “for its racism, xenophobia, and lack of merit”. While the charge that Enid Blyton's work housed racist elements and borderline sexual innuendos have been around for more than three decades, its re-emergence has enraged an entire legion of generations whose imagination she sparked with her writing, enchanting millions of young minds with her tales of adventure, faraway lands, friendship, ginger beer, hot bun and picnics in the sun.More Related News
