Congress Ministers in Telangana said that they prioritize increasing farmers' income through efficient irrigation projects and pro-farmer policies. They spoke about Brahmana Vellamla project, Udayasamudram lift irrigation project

Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy stated that the Congress government is focused on increasing farmers’ per capita income through better policies, effective reforms, and a pro-farmer approach.

He emphasised that the government aims to maximise irrigation coverage with minimal expenditure, focusing on completing pending projects and initiating new ones.

Speaking to media persons after reviewing the Udaysamundram Lift Irrigation Project at Brahmana Vellamla reservoir, along with ministers Komatireddy Venkatreddy and Ponnam Prabhakar, on Friday (December 6, 2024), he said that pumping into the Brahmana Vellamla reservoir would commence on Saturday (December 7, 2024) by Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy. In Phase-I of the project, 734 acres of land acquisition would be completed in a month, and 50,000 acres of new ayacut would be supplied with irrigation water.

Roads and Buildings Minister Komatireddy Venkata Reddy said that the Srisailam Left Bank Canal (SLBC) Tunnel works were now being taken up on a war- footing, and once completed, 3 lakh acres of ayacut would be supplied with Krishna water with gravity. The SLBC tunnel works, Udaysamundramam LIS, Dindi, Nakkalagandi balancing reservoir, Bunadigani canal, Pellaipalli canal and Dharmareddypalli canal works and all other ongoing and pending projects in combined Nalgonda district would be completed on a war-footing. The Ministers said that Udaysamundram LIS would ultimately irrigate 1 lakh acres in Nalgonda, Nakrekal, Munugode and Thungathurthy constituencies.

Mr. Uttam Reddy and Mr. Venkata Reddy highlighted that ₹5 crore had been allocated to complete canal works linked to the Brahmana Vellemla Project, which was already 50% completed. These works would be expedited to ensure water supply to 50,000 acres within a week.

Mr. Venkata Reddy said that the SLBC (Srisailam Left Bank Canal) tunnel project was neglected by the previous administration and shared that machinery procured during his visit to the United States would arrive within a month. Once operational, the SLBC project would deliver continuous water supply to 3 lakh acres in Nalgonda through gravity flow from Srisailam.

Mr. Uttam Reddy said the Congress government was also focused on reviving the Pranahita Project, abandoned by the previous BRS government in favour of Kaleshwaram. Work at Tummidihetti is set to begin next summer, providing irrigation to 2 lakh acres in Adilabad.
