Brace yourself for 'long duration rainfall event,' Environment Canada says

London should brace itself for a lot of steady rain in the next 24 hours that could dump up to 50 mm of wet on the region by Friday morning.
"The rain will pretty much persist through much of the day and into tonight. It's not going to be incredibly heavy rain at any given time, but it's a long-duration rainfall event," said Daniel Liota, a meteorologist with Environment Canada.
"By the time it's all said and done Friday morning, we will see amounts of anywhere from 35 mm to 50 mm."
The weather agency has issued a special weather statement for the region because of the persistent rainfall.
The Upper Thames River Conservation Authority said they are not expecting significant flooding in the region, however, water levels are expected to rise and remain elevated. There is potential for flooding in low-lying areas that are typically prone to flooding.
There will also be strong winds tomorrow, particularly late in the day.
"The winds will be becoming northwesterly with gusts anywhere from 70 km/h to 80 km/h," said Liota.
Those strong winds could mean uprooted trees because of soil saturated by the rain. The rain will stop by Saturday morning, Liota said.
"There could be a weak little system that will come through on Sunday that could bring some showers and maybe even a rumble of thunder," he said. "It's kind of showers one day, dry the next, so every other day."
