Bombay High Court relief to Narayan Rane in 'slap Uddhav Thackeray' case
India Today
On August 23, 2021, Narayan Rane said that he would have slapped the Maharashtra Chief Minister for “not knowing how many years it has been since India gained Independence”. A number of FIRs were registered against Narayan Rane across the state.
The Bombay High Court has granted two weeks’ protection to Union Minister Narayan Rane for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. A bunch of FIRs were registered, including one in Dhule. The court is hearing this case now.
This comes after the court asked the public prosecutor whether a statement would be made by the state on why no coercive action was taken against Rane.
This morning, the government pleader said that he did not have “instructions to make that statement”.
The bench told Rane’s lawyers that they could pursue legal recourse within the two weeks of protection.
Rane, in a petition, has pleaded that the FIR against him be quashed and, pending the hearing of the plea, the court should direct the police to not take any coercive action against him and that they should not file a chargesheet against him.
The plea stated that the allegations in the FIR are false and are politically motivated. The complainant belongs to Shiv Sena, it added.
On August 23, 2021, Rane, while addressing a press conference in Raigad, said that he would have slapped the Maharashtra Chief Minister for “not knowing how many years it has been since India gained Independence”.
