The Bombay High Court has decided to grant interim relief to BJP leader Kirit Somaiya in the INS Vikrant corruption case. “The complaint is vague and is based on media reports. We will protect him [Kirit Somaiya] and ask him to cooperate. I will not dispose of the petition. I will only grant interim relief,” Justice Anuja Prabhudessai.
Somaiya is facing prosecution in connection with the alleged misappropriation of funds to the tune of more than Rs 57 crore registered by the Mumbai Police. His son Neil is also an accused in the case.

The Somaiyas were alleged to have collected crores of rupees to save the decommissioned aircraft carrier and Indian Naval Ship Vikrant which had served the nation during the 1971 war. The case was registered against them by a retired armyman who claimed that he had donated Rs 2,000 but was not even given a receipt for the donation.
The complainant later got to know that the money was never forwarded to the governor's office, which Somaiya had collected in 2013. The ship was decommissioned in 2014 and was later sold for scrap and broken down.
