The Bombay High Court on Thursday dismissed a plea by a man challenging a trial court's order that sentenced him to life imprisonment for murdering his wife.
A bench of the Bombay High Court has dismissed an appeal by a man who was sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering his wife in 2014. His sentence was announced by the Dhule sessions court.
The man, Dinkar Gharte (31) is from Maharashtra’s Dhule. He was married to Yogita and the two had a four-year-old son. Yogita’s mother had brought Yogita and her grandson to her home after learning about Dinkar’s habit of consuming alcohol and assaulting her daughter. A few days later, Dinkar came to her house and the family of three started living in a room outside Yogita’s mother’s house.
On February 23, 2014, Dinkar came home and found out that Yogita had not yet cooked food as she just arrived home from work. He then attacked her with a scissor. Yogita’s mother sustained injuries while trying to save her daughter.

Dinkar was handed over to the police after the incident.
Advocate SJ Salunke appearing for Dinkar argued that at the time of incident, Dinkar was under the influence of alcohol and indulged in verbal abuses. Salunke said that what really happened was Yogita’s brother had assaulted Dinkar with a knife but Yogita intervened and received the blow.
Salunke said that the prosecution had not sent the seized weapon for fingerprint tracing to find out who was holding it. Salunke also argued that all the eyewitnesses were relatives of Yogita and her brother, so they had vested interest in the case.
