The Bombay High Court has asked a senior level rank officer of Maharashtra police to file a reply to the petition filed by an Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of Police of the force voicing against huge corruption by towing vehicles at the behest of the traffic department.

ASI Sunil Toke had filed a petition seeking an investigation into the issue of “rampant corruption and extortion syndicate carried out under the guise of towing charges in the name and style of “protection fee” collected at Narpoli or Mankoli, Kalawa Kharegaon, Mumbra Tolnaka and Kalyan Fata, Kapurbawdi or Majivada, Panvel, Mahape, Kalamboli and Taloja.”
The decision bench of Justices AA Sayed and Abhay Ahuja asked an officer above the rank of Divisional Commissioner of Police to file the affidavit.
