Exclusive documents accessed by India Today have revealed that several incriminating materials were recovered by the central agencies during raids on PFI functionaries.
The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has banned the radical Islamic outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) for five years following multiple raids on its functionaries by central agencies across several states. Exclusive documents accessed by India Today have revealed that the central agencies recovered several incriminating materials during the raids which led to the arrest of many PFI functionaries.
On September 22, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED) carried out searches against the PFI in 15 states, arresting 106 people. The second round of raids took place on Tuesday in eight states.
During the raids, the agencies recovered incriminating materials, including a guide to make explosives and surveillance equipment. Few of them are as below:
- A guide on how to make an improvised explosive device (IED) was recovered from PFI leaders Mohd Nadeem from Barabanki and Ahmed Beg Nadwi from Khadra in Uttar Pradesh. The document is titled 'A short course on how to make IEDs using easily available materials'. The document also calls to "fight and slay the pagan wherever you find them".
- Two Lowrance LHR-80 were recovered from the residence of Barakathulla, the district president of Social Democratic Party of India (SDPI) in Ramnad district of Tamil Nadu. Lowrance LHR-80 is a handheld radio and navigator with GPS.
- Unaccounted cash was recovered from the residence of Shahid Khan, PFI leader in Bengaluru.
The PFI and its associate organisations - Rehab India Foundation (RIF), Campus Front of India (CFI), All India Imams Council (AIIC), National Confederation of Human Rights Organization (NCHRO), National Women’s Front, Junior Front, Empower India Foundation and Rehab Foundation, Kerala - have been banned for five years.
