The body of a missing kayaker has been located, bringing an end to a nearly week-long search of Lake Huron by Ontario Provincial Police and the Canadian Coast Guard.
In a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, OPP West Region announced that the man, identified only as a 57-year-old man from London, was located dead on Tuesday near the beach area in Saint Joseph.
"The #OPP extends condolences to their family. Thank you to everyone who assisted in the search effort to locate this individual," police said on social media.
The small lakeside community is about 12 kilometres north of Grand Bend, and a short distance up the coastline from where the man's kayak was discovered adrift last week.
Members of the Canadian Coast Guard located the man's unoccupied kayak around 9:40 p.m. on July 3, near Sunview Avenue in Bluewater, prompting a search by first responders, including the OPP's air and marine units.
Few other details were available on Tuesday. Inquiries to the OPP and coast guard were not immediately returned.
